The One Thing That a Home Business Entrepreneur Has to Get Right

There was no shortage of training and instruction opportunities on how to run a successful home business when I first got started. Just the training offered by my company was more than I could read or listen to in a week. That wasn’t even accounting for all of the information available from Google. I began to notice that some people were doing a lot more home business training than home business building. The predictable result was that they became very knowledgeable but not very wealthy.

From my experience, the purpose of home business training and education is not knowledge. It’s action. What good is learning if you do not apply what you have learned to get the desired result?

The secret to home business success? There is no secret anymore. Those who have been successful are usually very open about how they did it. Why? First, they understand that there is enough money and opportunity for everyone to prosper. Second, they know that 9 out of 10 people they train will not apply what they have learned and therefore will never be a threat of any kind.

When you are getting started in a new business, it is exciting. It can also be a little bit overwhelming once you figure out how much there is to learn. It seems like there is a lot to remember. Many new home business entrepreneurs react to this by finding ways to stay busy without doing anything productive to move their business forward. Doing “research” is a common way to stay busy without moving your business forward at all. Researching advertising, researching prospecting, researching team building, etc. At the end of the day, you haven’t done anything to potentially put money in your pocket.

There are countless ways to advertise, prospect and network. Some things will work for you and some won’t be a fit. You have to evaluate whether or not it fits in your schedule, budget, etc. To be successful, you will absolutely need to learn a new skill set and some of the activities you spend your time on absolutely should give you butterflies in your stomach. Butterflies in your stomach let you know that you are moving outside your comfort zone and stretching yourself as an entrepreneur and person. Examine your daily activities. If you are never uncomfortable in your business activities, there is a good chance that you not having much luck moving it forward.

It’s simple to determine if what you are doing is home business building or home business training. When you look back on your day, what activities did you engage in to move your business forward (i.e. did you sharpen all the pencils on your desk and rearrange your office or did you speak to five prospect/customers about your product?).

Examples of staying busy: arranging your desk, ordering business cards, researching advertising possibilities that you do not immediately implement. Training should be a cornerstone of your business, but not to the exclusion of the things that bring in income. Training and education is critical, but only when you couple it with money making activities.

Examples of taking action: Placing advertisements, speaking to leads or customers, providing support for others in your enterprise.

If you are spending a lot of time on your business with little income to show for it, this is a great exercise to pinpoint the problem.

It comes down to this – It is a great deal easier (and more comfortable) to train than to take action. If you are always comfortable in your business, you are most likely not moving yourself forward.

Never forget that you learn so that you can take action. Here’s how you do that. Learn something, then immediately apply it. Use what works and discard the rest. Repeat. Soon you will develop an arsenal of tools to help you become a successful home business owner.

What’s the Purpose of Business Plan Development?

Business plan development is considered a necessary evil by many entrepreneurs – it is the process of creating a document which will help them pitch to investors and lenders. However, funding aside, you will improve your chances of business success if you take business plan development seriously.

Planning Does Help

It is a simple “out” for entrepreneurs to throw their hands up, saying “If so much of business is about flying by the seat of my pants, reacting to opportunities and threats and they arise, and changing plans continuously, there is no reason to plan for my own purposes. Certainly, a plan will be required by funders, but that plan does not have to have any similarity to the tactics which are used in the end.”

However, planning does help, even if the plan needs adjustment down the road. A plan can zero in on alternative strategies which might work and throw out those which do not fit the company’s intended brand, customer markets, or competitive situation. Without a written plan, the company is in danger of trying out strategies which seem to make sense on the surface, but really lack a good fit with the company in the long-run.

Keeping the Team Consistent

Another major reason to plan is to keep all team members on the same track. Without a written guide setting out the mission and strategy to achieve that mission, different managers may develop their own ideas about the priorities of the company and end up working at cross purposes. To serve this purpose, the business plan must be shared between the managers at least. The managers must all work to pass on guidance to their staff based on the plan.

Setting a Reflective Tone

It is extremely easy for entrepreneurs and small business owners to be caught up in the action of running their businesses on a day-to-day basis and consider reflection on where the company has come from and is going to be a luxury. Being serious about business plan development from the outset sets reflection as a priority for the company, and a business launched on this foundation stands a better chance of continuing to use planning as a tool going forward. When taken in balance with action and awareness of the present situation, reflection and planning can serve the business well.”

The Perfect Storm For Business Entrepreneurs

The perfect storm in marketing is here, savvy entrepreneurs have the opportunity to get in on the front side of the curve of an industry that is thriving even in this soft economy. Anybody who goes online theses days must be aware of the number of online businesses there are and the number keeps growing. It is estimated that a new home based business or direct marketing business is started every 11 seconds. While the rest of the economy is soft, to say the least. This is only fueling the drive to entrepreneurship for a lot of Americans. It is this writers opinion, that we have always been entrepreneurially minded as a nation and it will be the small business that pulls the economy out of the current malaise.

So, then having decided that network marketing or direct sales is the route to go as an entrepreneur, the question becomes what to market. The exploding field of personal development and spirituality is the answer. One need only watch television for a brief bit, go to any library, bookstore or major market place to see shelves upon shelves of information on these subjects. The state of the world combined with the aging of the American population has created a return to awareness, spirituality and mind development.

One Scottsdale, Arizona company, which is over 8 years old and has a presence in 147 countries reports an increase in revenues of 50% for the first quarter of 2009 versus the first quarter of 2008. Their mantra is BE, DO, HAVE. By this they mean that to live in abundance, one must act as if already in abundance. This “being” then kicks in the Law of Attraction as found in the book and DVD “The Secret”. By thinking in abundance, abundance is naturally attracted. Like attracts like, as it is often put. With the pattern of this thinking, it is only natural that you will have. It is the universal law of cause and effect.

So, covering the BE and HAVE, the key to “The Secret” is then to DO. This means making the decision then acting upon it with passion. Putting all the unique talents, abilities, interests and values you possess to work to achieve the greatness you were intended to possess. It does take action. One could meditate, actualize, visualize, pray or astral project, but without some action, nothing will happen.

It is much like putting a glass of water in front of a thirsty man. He can close his eyes and actualize, visualize, meditate, pray and try anything else, but until he reaches out his hand and picks up the glass, he will remain thirsty. For those of you contemplating business entrepreneurism, I urge you to pick up the glass and consider the market of personal development and spirituality as the niche to explore. It is “the perfect storm”.

Are You a Top Home Business Entrepreneur? Do You Have What it Takes? Learn How in Three Easy Steps

Do you actually believe that you are going to achieve those lofty goals of being a top home business entrepreneur and make big money in your home based franchise for this last part of 2009, looking into 2010? Most people don’t believe. And when I say believe, sure on the surface they might talk the good game, but deep down there is always that question mark, that voice that says, why should this year be any different than last year…especially in this economy?

Do you have that same little voice? I’ll tell you he gets around that is for sure, and that is why most people will never accomplish their lofty goals and make the kind of money that they would love to make in their home based franchise.

Your success and wealth will never be yours unless you start to have confidence in yourself that yes, despite the economy, despite working the long hours, that despite the family not being 100% behind you, that indeed you will be a top home business entrepreneur and have a successful home based franchise. I know that is easier said than done, so let’s take a look at how it can be done.

Did you know that the average person has about 50,000 thoughts per day? Whew…that is a lot of thoughts and sadly most of them happen to be negative thoughts. I don’t blame you, take a look around you…CNN (Constantly Negative News) drones in the background of homes and offices, everyone is getting a bail out but the people who really do need it…you know, people like you and me, our kids tell us that we don’t know anything, the commute is a drag and your boss constantly is harping at you. It’s hard to get out of feeling negative…at least for a good portion of the day.

Your first move is to get out of being the victim. You are not the victim. You have complete control of everything that happens in your daily life; so take control. Start today. Sure, it might seem a bit awkward initially, but as you take control more and more, you will like the feeling that having more control gives to you.

Turn off CNN, don’t allow the kids to be disrespectful, listen to motivating tapes and CD’s on your commute and start to do something about firing your boss! Take control! As the saying goes… I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and gosh darn it… people like me!

The power of your mind is incredible and unfortunately you are always programming your subconscious mind. You are programming your mind with both the positive and the negative thoughts that you have throughout the day.

So, if the majority of those 50,000 thoughts are negative, that is what you are programming your mind to think and because your mind listens to you, your mind believes those thoughts and makes them true. The good news for all of us is the same can be true for the positive thoughts.

Your second move is to carefully monitor your talk whether it is your self-talk or your day to day typical conversations. You must be persistent about this. Most people at this point in their lives are so conditioned by negative self-talk, that they don’t even realize that they are doing it. If you need to ask a friend to be your ears and ask them to interrupt you every time you start to talk negatively about literally everything then do it!

As you become more and more conscious of the conversations that you have out loud, you will then become more conscious of the conversations that you have to yourself. Both can be equally damaging, or helpful, depending upon which way your conversations go.

I find that one of the most powerful tools for building self-confidence and getting rid of the negative conversation is the repetition of positive statements until they become a natural part of the way you think. These “affirmations” act to replace the negative conversation you have been sending to your mind for the better part of your life.

Every morning before I get started with my day I do three things…without fail. I write down my affirmations for the day, I say them out loud to anyone who will listen (usually it’s only my cat, but he will do!) and then I write in my journal everything that I am grateful for in my life and for the day. Yes, it is a ritual that I have, but after I am done, but mind set is powerfully positive and I feel like I can conquer the world. I know that now my self-talk is going to help me to get to the dreams and goals that I have laid out for myself and for my home based franchise for the end of 2009 into 2010.

Your third move is to make a list of around 20 affirmations that you will write down and say once, twice, even three times a day. When you say your affirmations, say them out loud, with conviction and with confidence. Your mind will start to believe the orders that you are giving to it. That is when your goals and your dreams will start to come to fruition for you and your home based franchise.

Believing in yourself is a choice…it’s your choice and it’s an attitude you develop over time. Your negative self-talk will not end tomorrow, but now you know how to take responsibility to take charge of your own self-talk and your beliefs.

You must choose to believe that you can do anything you set your mind to – anything at all – because, in fact, you can! Take action today…be the top home business entrepreneur and have the best home based franchise and I will see you at the top.
